Hiroaki Tanaka (3rd-year student in the Doctoral Programs of the Graduate School of Media and Governance), a member of Professor Takashi Iba's laboratory in the Faculty of Policy Management, received the "Award for Excellence" at the 22nd Annual Conference of the Japanese Association of Qualitative Psychology.
The Japanese Association of Qualitative Psychology is a forum for mutual dialogue in qualitative research, where researchers from diverse fields discuss qualitative research methodology. This year, marking the 22nd conference, the event was held under the theme of "Bridging," with the hope of "building bridges" between theory and practice, research and practice, researchers and practitioners, investigators and research collaborators, and researchers from different fields through qualitative research.
In this conference, there were 94 applications for general research presentations (posters), and three presentations, including Mr. Tanaka's, received the Award for Excellence. Mr. Tanaka's presentation, titled "When the 'Way of Making' is Made: An Analysis of Manga Artist Hirohiko Araki's 'Manga Techniques' Formation Process using TEM/TLMG," proposed an approach aimed at "bridging" idiographic qualitative research (TEA research) and nomothetic qualitative research (pattern language creation research).

Comment from Hiroaki Tanaka
I am very encouraged to receive such an award. This research was made possible by the "Manga Techniques" of manga artist Hirohiko Araki, as well as the advice and support of many people, including Professor Takashi Iba, who provides kind guidance on a daily basis. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude. As a practitioner of creation myself, I will continue to devote myself to producing research results that bridge theory and practice, research and practice, and researchers and practitioners.
