"Mimisuma Device Manufacturing Factory," a work by Fumiya Sano (a first-year master's student in the Graduate School of Media and Governance) and his team from the laboratory of Associate Professor Shinya Fujii of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, has won the Yusuke Aonuma Award at the Interverse Virtual Reality Challenge (IVRC).

The IVRC, which has been held since 1993, is a challenge for student-centered teams to plan and create interactive works. Submissions were solicited from teams or individuals where more than half of the members are students (junior high/high school, technical college, undergraduate, and graduate students).

The work by Sano's team, "Mimisuma Device Manufacturing Factory," was selected from 86 entries as one of the 10 works to advance to the LEAP STAGE, where it won the Yusuke Aonuma Award.

Comment from Fumiya Sano

This work was an attempt to create a unique acoustic experience, as if one were underwater, by making noise-canceling technology—which is normally used to block external sounds—controllable and utilizing it in a new way. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who provided guidance and cooperation in the production of this work. I would also like to extend my deepest thanks to everyone who experienced it.
