From Thursday, August 8, to Saturday, August 10, the "Augmented Town Workshop: Weaving New Human Connections with XR and Robotics," part of the Camp for Designing the Future 2024 (in Tottori), was held in Tottori City, Tottori Prefecture. The event was co-hosted by Tottori Prefecture and WebDINO Japan, with the cooperation of Tottori City.

Now in its 14th year, the "Camp for Designing the Future" is an event primarily for first- and second-year high school students. It was designed as a venue for participants, meeting for the first time, to pool their diverse knowledge and wisdom and think through hands-on experience about the "ability to execute" that leads to the future. Communicating with fellow campers while tackling problems with no set answers gives rise to flexible ideas and flashes of insight.

In the Augmented Town Workshop, set in the central urban area of Tottori City, the goal was to build a city platform using the latest XR and robotics technologies. A total of 16 participants from across the country, together with faculty members, SFC students, and residents of Tottori City, deepened their understanding of the region through fieldwork, engaged in repeated discussions, and worked on implementation activities. The tense final presentations were distinctive, going beyond mere "explanations" of their deliverables to include demonstration skits and device experiences, overflowing with the passionate experience of the three days.

It was three days of meeting new friends and fostering exchange, all while experiencing the unique SFC way of seeing and thinking and taking a big step toward the future.
