Hibiki Inagaki, a sophomore in the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies (his affiliation and year at the time of the award) and a member of the laboratory of former Professor Satoru Tezuka of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, was selected as an "Outstanding Graduate" in SecHack365 2023, a long-term hackathon program hosted by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT).

SecHack365 is a 365-day long-term hackathon for individuals aged 25 and under, held with the aim of fostering human resources capable of innovative research and development at a high level while providing opportunities for "monozukuri" (craftsmanship). Approximately 40 participants who passed the selection process from all over Japan learn about cybersecurity technology and ethics over the course of a year under the guidance of experts.

Throughout the year, Mr. Inagaki participated in the Expression-Driven Course, where groups engage in "monozukuri," and played a leading role within his team to develop a device that makes home IoT devices safer and more secure through easy management.

The title of "Outstanding Graduate" is awarded to participants who developed one of the six works selected as particularly outstanding from the year-long "monozukuri" results of SecHack365. The work by Mr. Inagaki and his team was highly evaluated for proposing a solution from a unique perspective, such as community building, to support the increasingly important security measures for IoT devices, as well as for the completeness of the work and the group's high level of expressiveness.

On March 2, 2024, a final presentation event was held at AKIBA SQUARE in Akihabara UDX, where Mr. Inagaki and his team gave a presentation.

Comment from Hibiki Inagaki

I am extremely happy to be certified as an Outstanding Graduate of SecHack365 for the 2023 academic year. The experience of creating the final product with my team members has given me a great sense of accomplishment, and I am deeply honored that our work has been recognized in this way.

Interacting with engineers from various backgrounds through multiple team development projects over the year increased my opportunities to tackle new technologies I had never encountered before, serving as a preparatory experience for learning engineering. Furthermore, I keenly felt the difficulty of team building in team development, and the experience of repeated trial and error with my team members was invaluable. It made me consider each project not only from a technical skill perspective but also from a team management viewpoint.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my team members with whom I learned over the past year, the graduates and instructors, and everyone at the Murai Joint Research Project who supported me. Moving forward, I will continue to strive for further improvement of my technical skills based on the knowledge I gained from SecHack365.
