A project by Hinata Furukata (a third-year student at the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies) and Zentaro Imai (a third-year student at the Faculty of Policy Management), who are members of Professor Toshiyuki Masui's lab at the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, has won the Grand Prix in the General Division of the University SDGs ACTION! The University SDGs ACTION! AWARDS 2024, established in 2018 and hosted by The Asahi Shimbun Company, is an award that invites and recognizes original projects and ideas from the younger generation based on their activities to solve social issues and their daily research. This year, a record-breaking 177 entries were submitted, and twelve teams selected as finalists gave a two-minute final presentation at the final screening. As a result of the selection process, the project "Rei's Blog" by Furukata, Imai, and their team won the Grand Prix.

Comments from the Winners

We believe that having the internet literacy to not be deceived by misinformation and disinformation is the first step toward solving many social issues. In fact, at this year's Davos Forum, it was announced that misinformation and disinformation are the most concerning global risks for the next two years, surpassing issues like climate change. Here in Japan as well, a great deal of false information became a problem during the Noto Peninsula Earthquake that occurred in January.

We, Classroom Adventure, developed "Rei's Blog" with the mission of making media literacy enjoyable for everyone to learn. In the future, we aim to introduce it to educational institutions not only in Japan but also around the world.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Professor Masui and the members of the lab, and to everyone who always supports our activities.

Ms. Furukata
