"Moving Auricle Device," a work by Fushi Sano, a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies and a member of Associate Professor Shinya Fujii's laboratory, was selected as a finalist in the Art & New Media category of the 29th Campus Genius Contest (CGC).

The Campus Genius Contest is a competition that invites students to submit works and recognizes their achievements, accepting submissions in any genre—including media art, animation, video, games, performance, gadgets, and contemporary art—with no restrictions on the theme.

For its 29th iteration, three new categories were established: "Art & New Media," "Video & Animation," and "Game & Interaction." Sano's work, "Moving Auricle Device," was selected as a finalist in the Art & New Media category.

Comment from Fushi Sano

I am honored to have my work selected as a finalist in the Campus Genius Contest. This work is an acoustic experience that invites listeners to focus on the changes in how sound is "heard," created using the "Moving Auricle Device," which moves in place of the human auricle—something we cannot normally open or close on our own—to alter our perception of sound. By focusing on the auricle, an organ we take for granted when listening, I explored new ways of hearing that are created by changing the environment around it. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone in my laboratory and all those involved for their guidance on this project.
