Shuntaro Nemoto, a first-year master's student in the Graduate School of Media and Governance and a member of Professor Takaaki Kato's laboratory at the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, won the Grand Prize at the 3rd Baseball Data Analysis Competition.

The Baseball Data Analysis Competition is hosted by the Baseball Federation of Japan (BFJ) and the Japan Amateur Baseball Association (JABA) with the aim of fostering future data analysts, data scientists, and coordinators for the baseball world. High school, university, and graduate students use tracking data to conduct analysis within a limited time and compete on their findings.

At the 3rd Baseball Data Analysis Competition, held on December 16 and 17, 2023, Nemoto (although the competition was for teams of three, his two teammates were absent for personal reasons) conducted his research by focusing on the point of contact, listening to the perceptions of professional baseball players, and utilizing data from corporate league baseball.

Comment from Shuntaro Nemoto

I am greatly honored to have received the Grand Prize in such a competition. I myself have had many discussions about data with players and coaches. Through this award, I hope to be recognized not only as a "graduate student well-versed in baseball" but also as a "professional who can handle data appropriately." Furthermore, winning this competition holds great significance for my future, and I want to once again celebrate this victory.
