Keio University
Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC)
Keio University's Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) (Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture), in collaboration with Studio Spoby Co., Ltd. (Chuo-ku, Tokyo), is launching a behavioral change project for university faculty, staff, students, and local residents aimed at decarbonization.
In 2022, SFC set a goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. To promote CO2 reduction and realize a sustainable campus, the Faculty of Policy Management, the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care, the Graduate School of Media and Governance, the Graduate School of Health Management, and the Keio Shonan Fujisawa Junior and Senior High School are collaborating on various activities.
As part of this initiative, a behavioral change project will be launched using the eco-life app "SPOBY," developed by Studio Spoby Co., Ltd. The project aims to reduce CO2 emissions by encouraging behavioral changes among students, faculty, staff, and local residents, such as avoiding the use of CO2-emitting vehicles for distances that can be covered on foot or by bicycle.
Overview of the Behavioral Change Project for Decarbonization
Project Period
Two months, from Saturday, November 25, 2023, to Saturday, January 27, 2024
Project Outline
Install the eco-life app "SPOBY" and measure the amount of CO2 emissions reduced (decarbonization amount) by walking or cycling within the app.
1g of decarbonization is converted to 1 point.
Points can be exchanged for sponsored benefits from companies, the university co-op, and local farms and shops in the area surrounding the university, which are listed in the app.
A "Benefit Award Event" where participants can receive their benefits is scheduled to be held at SFC on Saturday, January 27, 2024.
The project will analyze and research the activity levels and travel data measured to examine the optimization of community-based decarbonization activities, the diversity of health activities, and other aspects for future sustainable community building.
This campaign is being conducted as part of the "Sustainable Campus" project, which spans across faculties and graduate schools at SFC, with the cooperation of "KEIO SPORTS SDGs," an initiative that utilizes the power of sports to achieve the SDGs.
*The project is also supported by Fujisawa City, which operates the "Fujisawa Walking Project."
