Comment from Senior Assistant Professor Masaki Mori

I am greatly honored to receive this prestigious award along with Goto, Kobayashi, and Ayase. "Sideways Crab Walk Illusion" is an illusionary work where, when observing a large screen showing many crabs walking simultaneously both vertically (top to bottom) and diagonally (top-right to bottom-left) as in the video, focusing on one direction changes the perception of movement in the other. For this work, we chose the crab as our motif, a creature familiar from picture books and daily life. I hope that the "Sideways Crab Walk Illusion" will provide an opportunity for people to enjoy motion-related illusions in a familiar context.
