The 2021 SFC STUDENT AWARD ceremony was held on April 6. This year, the award was presented to the following eight individuals and groups, including graduate and undergraduate students.

Graduating students received their awards from the dean in March 2022 while they were still enrolled.

The SFC STUDENT AWARD, supported by the Education Encouragement Fund, recognizes individuals or groups of students for their external activities, on-campus activities, research, and other achievements deemed worthy of representing SFC.

2021 Award Winners (Affiliations and academic years are as of the time of the award)

Soya Eguchi, 1st-year master's student, Graduate School of Media and Governance

Designed the world's first 3D-printed award podium made from recycled plastic for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Yuki Hideshima, 1st-year master's student, Graduate School of Media and Governance

Recognized as a Super Creator in the MITOU Program (program for discovering and nurturing outstanding IT talent) by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Information-technology Promotion Agency, Japan (IPA).

Yasunari Masumura, 1st-year master's student, Graduate School of Media and Governance

Received the Outstanding Research Award at The 5th cross-disciplinary Workshop on Computing Systems, Infrastructures, and Programming, among other achievements.

Kodai Komatsu, 4th-year student, Faculty of Policy Management

Established "YASUKE," an organization "connecting Africa and Japan" named after Yasuke, the first Black samurai who served Oda Nobunaga. He also set up and managed a share house called YASUKE HOUSE, published the YASUKE magazine, and engaged in various other information dissemination activities, among other achievements.

Maya Sekine, 4th-year student, Faculty of Policy Management (Representative; Winning Group: YouTube "Shito Channel")

Since its launch in 2019, the channel has accumulated content on the Ainu language and culture. In conjunction with other social media, it has grown into an important platform for disseminating information on Ainu language and culture by the 2021 academic year, among other achievements.

Rino Nakajima, 3rd-year student, Faculty of Policy Management

Consistently engaged in activities to spread correct knowledge about sex, including sex education, gender and sexuality, and LGBTQ issues, among other achievements.

Yota Maeda, 2nd-year student, Faculty of Policy Management

For actively developing activities related to "shukatsu" (end-of-life planning) since enrolling and earning high societal recognition, among other achievements.

Mayu Inomura, 3rd-year student, Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care (Representative; Winning Group: Student Volunteer Group Sparkle)

For launching Sparkle, a student volunteer group that supports play for hospitalized pediatric patients. This academic year, the group conducted online craft workshops for children with experience of battling illness, held an exhibition of the completed works at Canal City Hakata in Fukuoka, and accomplished other internal and external outreach efforts, among other achievements.
