Comment from the Award Winner, Yuko Yamashita (4th-year student, Faculty of Environment and Information Studies)
For this project, I wove a landscape into my home's screen door. I want to create works that shine a light on things like screen doors—things that are physically present but treated as if they aren't, like *kuroko* (stagehands in traditional Japanese theater). It all started when I was a first-year undergraduate student in the SBC, embroidering marks on screen doors in the residential building to prevent collisions, and somehow it has led me to this point.
I remember Professor Matsukawa, who was my academic advisor in the SBC at the time, telling me that automating the screen door embroidery could be a viable graduation project. At the time, I didn't understand the meaning or significance of automating it, but now I feel I have created a graduation project that I am satisfied with, one that incorporates my feelings for the *kuroko*-like existence of screen doors. Although my graduation project marks an end to one chapter, I believe the values and worldview I have presented here will continue with me for the rest of my life. I intend to live in society while cherishing and updating them.
