Yoshiko Nakagawa and Aina Suzuki, both first-year students at the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, each received an Excellence Award at the "Let's Think Together: Fukushima, Toward the Future of the Environment." Challenge Award, announced in March 2021. Nakagawa was awarded the Excellence Award: Fukushima Governor's Prize, while Suzuki received the Excellence Award: Fukushima Prefectural Curriculum Advisory Committee Superintendent's Prize.
Hosted by the Ministry of the Environment, this Challenge Award invited junior high school, high school, and university students to submit their ideas and thoughts regarding the future and hopes for Fukushima. The submissions were based on reflecting on the past 10 years since the nuclear disaster and expressing visions for "how I want to change Fukushima" and "what I want Fukushima to become." The winners in each category were selected from these entries.
Comments from Winners Nakagawa and Suzuki
We are greatly honored to receive the Excellence Award at the Fukushima Challenge Award. We had the opportunity to engage with Fukushima through our activities with S.A.L., a student organization for raising awareness of international issues, which led us to apply for this award. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has been involved, as we have been blessed with many wonderful opportunities over the past year to have the valuable experience of learning and thinking about Fukushima. We hope to continue our engagement with Fukushima through our club activities.
