Research on transactions by Associate Professor Hideyuki Kawashima of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies and his colleagues was published in Vol. 13 of Proceedings of the VLDB Endowment (PVLDB), an international journal on databases. In the CORE ranking of computer science publications, PVLDB is ranked A*, the highest rank. For Vol. 13, 827 papers were submitted from April 2019 to March 2020, and only two research papers from Japan were accepted.

In their paper titled " An analysis of concurrency control protocols for in-memory databases with CCBench" , Associate Professor Kawashima and his colleagues deeply analyzed modern transaction systems and derived six unprecedented insights. This research was conducted jointly with the University of Tsukuba, Cybozu Labs, and Nautilus Technologies.

Comment from Associate Professor Hideyuki Kawashima

Transaction systems are a core technology that is always used when writing data, and from credit card payments to blockchain, they are one of the most important information technologies supporting our future information society. This is the first time that research from Japan on this important technology has been published in a top journal/conference. Based on this, we will further promote the building of a new era's foundation.
