Keio Research Institute at SFC, Keio University has launched "S-face," a website that introduces its researchers to a global audience.

"S-face" introduces researchers from multiple perspectives through a series of features across three different types of media: a website (in English), videos (in English), and a newsletter (in English/Japanese).

Vol. 31 features Senior Assistant Professor Megumi Tsujimoto of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies.

Tardigrades, also known as water bears, have become a topic of interest for their remarkable ability to withstand extreme environments, including radiation, vacuum, and cryogenic temperatures.

Many mysteries still remain about the biology of these "toughest animals," which are less than 1 mm in size.

Senior Assistant Professor Megumi Tsujimoto, who specializes in polar ecology, is now studying the ecology of tardigrades in Antarctica.

She has participated twice in the summer team of the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition, conducting full-scale field research on the actual conditions of tardigrades living in this extreme environment.

Furthermore, in a study where she successfully recorded the revival, recovery, and reproduction of tardigrades extracted from moss that had been frozen for over 30 years, she significantly broke the previous record for their longest survival.
