The Keio Research Institute at SFC, Keio University, has launched "S-face," a website that introduces its researchers to an international audience.

"S-face" introduces researchers from multiple perspectives as a series of features through three different types of media: a website (in English), videos (in English), and a newsletter (in English/Japanese).

Vol. 30 features Professor Akihito Shimazu of the Faculty of Policy Management.

In Japan, where the working population is declining due to a falling birthrate and an aging population, there is a demand for improving the quality of the workforce, along with the realization of diverse work styles. One of the essential elements for achieving improved productivity is the perspective of how to enhance employees' proactivity and sense of purpose in their work. This is where Professor Akihito Shimazu comes in. He is clarifying the relationship between the health and lives of workers and their job performance, using "work engagement"—the state of working proactively and with enthusiasm—as a key concept. By developing a variety of tools based on his research findings and approaching the "3 HPs" of workers (Health Promotion, Human Performance, and Happiness), he aims to enable each individual to work in a healthy and vibrant manner.
