Maho Ono (a third-year student at the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies) was the runner-up at the Karate1 Series A Montreal tournament, held from June 21 to 23 in Montreal, Canada. This marks Ms. Ono's first medal in an international tournament, and it is also the first medal for the Athletic Association Karate Club in an international tournament that counts toward Olympic points.

Comment from Maho Ono

"Fifteen years after starting karate, I have been able to achieve one of my biggest childhood dreams: to stand on the podium at an international tournament. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Coach Kobayashi, the senior members, the club members, and everyone who has always supported and cheered for me.

Last year, I suffered a major injury, and there was a time when I didn't enjoy karate. I lost my sense of self and experienced a major setback. However, no matter what headwinds I faced, there were people who believed in me. Thanks to all of you, I now feel like I can fly anywhere.

My goal is to become the best in Japan and then the best in the world. I will continue to devote myself even more, and I ask for your continued support and encouragement."
