The Faculty of Policy Management and Faculty of Environment and Information Studies at Keio University Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) would like to announce the changes being made to AO Screening starting in Academic Year 2020 (AY 2021 enrollment or after). Please be informed that there will also be changes to the admission quota for general entrance examinations and AO Screenings held in Academic Year 2020 (AY 2021 enrollment or after).

Objectives and Future Direction of AO Screening

Admissions will become more flexible in a number of ways, with the goal of accommodating more diverse students from around the world who will go on to become leaders of the future. The application requirements will be loosened, the admissions periods will be made more accessible, and the admission quota will be increased.

Changes to AO Screenings in Academic Year 2020 or after (AY 2021 enrollment or after) and Important Points

  • The admission quota will be increased from 100 to 150 for each faculty.

  • Applicants will be able to choose their enrollment period for either April (Spring Semester) or September (Fall Semester) at the time of application. This will make it easier to apply for applicants from high schools outside Japan or international schools in Japan.

  • The following changes will be made to AO Screening to allow diverse students from all over the world to apply.

Summer AO 2020, Fall AO 2020, and Spring AO 2020

The Application Guidebook will be released in both Japanese and English.

Applicants can choose “Japanese,” “English,” or “either” for the language at an interview.

Application methods (A/B/C/IB) used for AO Screenings, held for Academic Year 2020 enrollment or before, will no longer be used. Exemption from first round screening will be granted to those who can provide written documentation of having achieved the designated results in one of the designated competitions.

Winter AO 2020 (Global)

Students from high schools in Japan will be eligible to apply through AO Global if they submit one of the following Standardized Test scores (SAT, ACT, IB, or GCE-A levels) and a certificate of an official TOEFL score or other English language proficiency test. This will make it possible for applicants from high schools in Japan to apply in any of the four application periods instead of three. However, if applicants live in countries or regions where those tests are not available, it will be taken into consideration in the same manner as before.

Applications will be accepted only in English for AO (Global) Screenings as in the past.

The application process and basic requirements for applicants who graduated from high schools outside Japan or international schools in Japan will remain unchanged for AO Global / Admissions for Overseas Students (GIGA Program). Applications will be accepted from students from high schools in Japan in accordance with the conditions above.
