The Keio Research Institute at SFC at Keio University has launched "S-face," a website that introduces its researchers to a global audience.
"S-face" introduces researchers from multiple perspectives as a series of articles through three different types of media: a website (English), videos (English), and a newsletter (English/Japanese).
Vol. 29 features Senior Assistant Professor Yoshiaki Miyamoto of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies.
Typhoons make landfall in Japan almost every year, causing devastating damage. Many mysteries still remain about their mechanisms. In 2018, Senior Assistant Professor Yoshiaki Miyamoto's research team discovered a new theory that explains the formation mechanism of the "outer eyewall," which rapidly changes the structure and intensity of a typhoon.
This is expected to dramatically improve the accuracy of typhoon intensity forecasts. Furthermore, Senior Assistant Professor Miyamoto is also actively involved in initiatives to apply meteorology to society and business.
