Symposium Held to Commemorate Partnership Agreement with Kwansei Gakuin University's Kobe-Sanda Campus (KSC)

On Monday, December 17, a symposium titled "Social Innovation: The Promise of Interdisciplinary Collaboration for Manufacturing and Global Society" was held at Kwansei Gakuin University's Kobe-Sanda Campus to commemorate the signing of an inter-campus partnership agreement between Keio University Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) and Kwansei Gakuin University's Kobe-Sanda Campus (KSC). The event was attended by approximately 500 people, including students and corporate representatives, and the venue was filled with excitement, reflecting the high expectations for the collaboration between the two campuses.

In Part 1, Jun Murai, Dean of the Graduate School of Media and Governance and Professor at the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, delivered a keynote speech on the theme of "Internet Civilization." He stated that with more than half of humanity now connected to the internet, we have already embarked on a new civilization of mutual love and respect, a message that deeply impressed many in the audience.

Part 2 featured research presentations. Following lectures from KSC professors—Noriko Osada of the Faculty of Science and Technology on "Innovation Created by Kansei Value," Tadaaki Kaneko of the Faculty of Science and Technology on "The Next Mobility Society Opened Up by Advanced Energy Nano-Engineering," and Keigo Kameda of the Faculty of Policy Management on "Social Science × Information Science"—Hiroya Tanaka, Executive Director, Keio Research Institute at SFC and Professor at the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, gave a lecture from SFC on "Manufacturing Transformed by Digital Fabrication." In his lecture, Professor Tanaka also mentioned that his research findings have expanded to involve SFC's Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care and the Graduate School of Health Management, and he spoke passionately about the nature of interdisciplinary research.

At the end of Part 2, Professor Taro Ozawa of SFC's Faculty of Policy Management and Vice President and Professor at the Faculty of Policy Management Junichi Nagamine of Kwansei Gakuin University spoke about the background leading to the signing of the partnership agreement between the two campuses. They also mentioned that a joint research presentation meeting between their respective research groups had already been held at SFC on Saturday, December 15; that three SFC faculty members are scheduled to give lectures at KSC on the theme of "Reconstruction and Disaster Prevention" in the spring semester of the next academic year; and the future prospects for the collaboration.
