July 26, 2018
On July 31, 2018, Ohnan Town (Shimane Prefecture, Mayor: Ryoji Ishibashi) and Keio Research Institute at SFC, Keio University (Kanagawa Prefecture, Director: Hiroya Tanaka; hereinafter "Keio Research Institute at SFC") will conclude a "Memorandum of Understanding on Collaboration for Research and Development on Regional Revitalization."
With the advice and cooperation of the Social Innovation Lab at Keio Research Institute at SFC (Representative: Masatoshi Tamamura, Professor, Faculty of Policy Management, Keio University), Ohnan Town will consider establishing the "Ohnan Town Regional Revitalization Research Institute" (*). This institute will work on developing and implementing social systems to lead the future, leveraging the town's expertise in promoting regional revitalization and industrial strategies for food and agriculture, such as its "Town of A-Rank Gourmet" initiative. The institute will, for example, consider a scholarship program modeled on the "Buri Scholarship Program," which the Keio Research Institute at SFC has jointly developed and implemented with local governments across Japan and financial institutions like Kagoshima Shinkin Bank.
In Ohnan Town, if a town employee enrolls in the Graduate School of Media and Governance at Keio University with a research theme on social systems to lead the future of Ohnan, they are scheduled to engage in research and development beneficial to the town as a "Regional Revitalization Researcher," receiving remote and in-person advice and guidance from the Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) at Keio University. Ohnan Town also plans to appoint graduate students from Keio University who are tackling the development of social systems by leveraging the strengths of the "Town of A-Rank Gourmet" as "Regional Revitalization Researchers."
(*) The "Ohnan Town Regional Revitalization Research Institute" is planned to be established within the Ohnan Town Hall.
