On July 9, 2018, Hanamaki City (Mayor: Toichi Ueda) and the Keio University Keio Research Institute at SFC (Director: Hiroya Tanaka; hereinafter "Keio Research Institute at SFC") will conclude the "Memorandum of Understanding on Collaborative Cooperation in Research and Development for Regional Revitalization" and hold a signing ceremony.
As the first step of this collaborative project, Hanamaki City, with the advice and cooperation of the Social Innovation Lab at the Keio Research Institute at SFC (Representative: Masatoshi Tamamura, Professor, Faculty of Policy Management, Keio University), will promote the establishment of the "Hanamaki City Regional Revitalization Research Institute" (*). This institute will develop and implement a "Regional Revitalization Project" in Hanamaki City and cultivate high-level human resources who will contribute to the future of the city.
Furthermore, in Hanamaki City, if city employees who have set themes to bring new initiatives to the city are accepted into the Keio University Graduate School of Media and Governance, they are scheduled to engage in research and development that contributes to Hanamaki City while receiving remote and in-person advice and guidance from the Keio University Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC).
(*) The "Hanamaki City Regional Revitalization Research Institute" is scheduled to be established within the Hanamaki City Regional Promotion Department.
1. Outline of the Memorandum of Understanding
(Purpose)
The purpose of this memorandum is to contribute to the formation of a vibrant local community, the development of human resources to lead future society, and the promotion of jitsugaku (science) through collaborative research and development for regional revitalization, based on a close partnership between Hanamaki City and the Social Innovation Lab established at the Keio Research Institute at SFC.
(Collaborative Matters)
To achieve the purpose stated in the preceding paragraph, the parties will collaborate and cooperate on the following matters.
(1) Matters related to research and development for regional revitalization in Hanamaki City
(2) Matters related to the development of human resources for regional revitalization and social innovation
(3) Matters related to the utilization of the intellectual, human, and material resources of both parties
(4) Other matters necessary to achieve the purpose of this agreement
