The Town of Higashikawa and Keio Research Institute at SFC Sign "Memorandum of Understanding on the Research and Development of the Higashikawa Style Future-Leading Program"

The Town of Higashikawa (Mayor: Ichiro Matsuoka) and Keio Research Institute at SFC (Director: Hiroya Tanaka; responsible lab: Social Innovation Lab, represented by Masatoshi Tamamura), hereinafter referred to as Keio Research Institute at SFC, will sign a "Memorandum of Understanding on the Research and Development of the Higashikawa Style Future-Leading Program" on June 21, 2018. Additionally, a signing ceremony will be held on the same day in the Town of Higashikawa, attended by Mayor Ichiro Matsuoka of Higashikawa and Masatoshi Tamamura of the Keio Research Institute at SFC.

Under this memorandum, the Town of Higashikawa and Keio Research Institute at SFC will promote the joint development of a social system capable of leading the future in the Town of Higashikawa, Hokkaido, Japan, and even globally, based on the "Higashikawa Style" that has been cultivated in the town.

1. Overview of the Memorandum of Understanding

(Purpose and Objectives)

Through a partnership between the Town of Higashikawa, which has continuously co-created the future-leading "Higashikawa Style" through the interaction of its people, and Keio Research Institute at SFC, which has promoted "jitsugaku (science) that leads the future" as a research hub leading advanced studies in the 21st century, the parties will conduct collaborative research and development to promote the creation and implementation of a social system that leads the future in the Town of Higashikawa, Hokkaido, Japan, and even globally.

(Areas of Collaboration)

To achieve the purpose and objectives stated in the preceding section, the Town of Higashikawa and Keio Research Institute at SFC will collaborate and cooperate on the following matters:

(1)

Matters related to regional revitalization, global strategy, and future strategy in the Town of Higashikawa.

(2)

Matters related to the research, development, and promotion of the "Project to Nurture the Future of Japan."

(3)

Matters related to the development and exchange of human resources responsible for regional revitalization and social innovation.

(4)

Matters related to the utilization of the intellectual, human, and material resources of both parties.

(5)

Other matters necessary to achieve the objectives of the memorandum.
