On the last Saturday of April, the Sagami Giant Kite soared into the clear sky over SFC.

About 30 students gathered in an open lot on the planned construction site for the Miraisozojuku (Institute for Designing the Future) in the WEST block of the Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC). At the command of the Dean of the Faculty of Policy Management, a kite inscribed with the character for "Dream" (夢) soared high into the air.

This giant kite flying has become an annual spring event, where students, mainly those enrolled in the mandatory first-year courses "Policy Management" and "Environment and Information Studies," fly the kite with the help of the local Endo district's "Tako no Kai" (Kite Association). This year, with the cooperation of Associate Professor Masashi Nakatani from the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, who specializes in haptics and measurement engineering, and Senior Assistant Professor Shinya Fujii from the same faculty, who specializes in music, body, and science, a small recorder and video camera were attached to the kite. They recorded the view from the kite high in the sky and the sounds generated there. This collaboration between the traditional Japanese culture of kites and cutting-edge technology opens up a new world. This video and audio will be used in future classes and other activities.

The giant kite "Yume" (Dream), which has been in service for six years since 2013, has deteriorated over time, so a new kite may make its debut next time.
