The Platform Design Lab at the Keio Research Institute at SFC, Keio University (Fujisawa, Kanagawa; hereinafter "Keio Research Institute at SFC") and Fukuoka Prefectural Tochiku High School (Yahatanishi-ku, Kitakyushu; hereinafter "Tochiku High School") are releasing "Logical Communication: Total Logics Special Edition" for free use by all high schools and high school students nationwide. This textbook is a compilation of the know-how for developing and measuring logical argumentation skills cultivated through 15 years of research at the Keio Research Institute at SFC and the teaching know-how cultivated through five years of "Total Logics" classes at Tochiku High School.

1. About "Logical Communication"

"Logical Communication" is a practical textbook for acquiring essential communication skills for society, such as "listening logically," "constructing logically," and "communicating logically," with the aim of fostering the practical ability to logically assert one's own claims without relying on the majority. Basic research began in 2003 at the Keio Research Institute at SFC, and the results of this research were published by Keio University Press, with the first edition in 2011 and the second edition in 2015.

At the same time, leading junior high and high schools across the country have been implementing "Logical Argumentation Skills (Logical Communication Skills) Classes" in independently designed courses such as "School-Designated Subjects" and the "Period for Integrated Studies."

The Keio Research Institute at SFC and Tochiku High School have now decided to jointly edit and release the textbook for "Logical Argumentation Skills (Logical Communication Skills) Classes" for free on the web. This textbook was previously available as a paid book (list price: 1,800 yen). The aim is to contribute broadly to society by providing a textbook for teaching logical argumentation skills free of charge.

This will allow high school teachers across the country to download "Logical Communication: Total Logics Special Edition" from the website, print copies for their students, and use it in their own teaching of logical argumentation skills. It will also enable high school students to study logical argumentation skills on their own.
