The 7th Data Business Creation Contest
Final Presentations, Judging, and Awards Ceremony to be Held
With the theme of "Value Creation through Washoku Culture," teams will propose measures to create new value in various fields
by utilizing review data from "Tabelog"
The Data Business Creation Lab at the Keio Research Institute at SFC, Keio University (Location: Fujisawa, Kanagawa; Director: Hiroya Tanaka; Lab Representative: Jun Murai; hereinafter "Keio SFC Lab") is holding the 7th Data Business Creation Contest: Digital Innovators Grand Prix 7 (abbreviated as DIG 7) with the support of this year's business partner, Digital Garage, Inc. (Headquarters: Shibuya, Tokyo; Representative Director, President and Group CEO: Kaoru Hayashi; hereinafter "Digital Garage"). As part of this, the final presentations, judging, and awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 17. Nine teams that passed the preliminary screening are scheduled to participate in the final presentations.
This Data Business Creation Contest is for high school to graduate school students nationwide. Under the theme of "Value Creation through Washoku Culture," participants compete by proposing measures to create new value in various fields by utilizing consumer-generated review data.
The Keio Research Institute at SFC will manage the contest, including theme setting, judging, and awards, in collaboration with its business partner, Digital Garage. The data for this year's theme will be provided by Kakaku.com, Inc., a Digital Garage Group company, and will include data on the top 1,000 restaurants in the Washoku (Japanese food) category on "Tabelog," along with one year's worth of associated review data. Additionally, "Mieruka Engine" from Plus Alpha Consulting Co., Ltd. will be available as an analysis tool.
This year, 51 teams applied to participate, with 31 of them entering the preliminary round. The nine teams that passed the preliminary screening will give their final presentations at the final presentation event.

[About the Data Business Creation Lab, Keio Research Institute at SFC, Keio University Data Business – for Data driven society ]
The Data Business Creation Lab is a group within the Keio Research Institute at SFC, Keio University that studies the fusion of IT, statistics, and business design. In addition to building a curriculum for training data scientists and conducting joint research on advanced big data aggregation and analysis methods, the lab has been holding the "Data Business Creation Contest" since 2014, a competition of ideas derived from data analysis in collaboration with industry, government, and academia. The 1st contest (April 2014) focused on the development and value of new services using "social data." The 2nd (September 2014) focused on new policies and solutions for local governments using "open data." The 3rd (September 2015) focused on ideas for new products/services and promotional measures using "consumer purchasing behavior data." The 4th (March 2016), under the theme "Bringing Smiles to Child-Rearing with Data and Creativity," involved self-directed information gathering and analysis to deepen understanding of the declining birthrate problem and propose business ideas derived from data analysis. The 5th (March 2017), themed "Regional Revitalization," focused on analyzing the movements of the rapidly increasing number of foreign visitors to Japan and proposing measures to attract them to regions and promote consumption. The 6th (September 2017), themed "Creating the Future with Sports x Analytics," involved competing on proposals for revitalizing individuals, organizations, and society through the analysis of data related to sports and sports spectating.
