On Saturday, November 25, the "A New Lifestyle is Just Around the Corner! Automated Driving Forum" was held at SFC. The event was co-hosted with the Industrial Promotion Division, Industrial Department, Industrial and Labor Bureau of Kanagawa Prefecture, as part of the initiatives of the prefecture's "Sagami Robot Industry Special Zone."
At the main venue, the Theta Building, opening remarks by Mr. Masanobu Nakajima, Vice Governor of Kanagawa Prefecture, were followed by a keynote speech titled "The Present and Near Future of Automated Driving" by Professor Manabu Omae of the Graduate School of Media and Governance.
In the panel discussion, coordinated by Professor Tomoyuki Furutani of the Faculty of Policy Management, a lively discussion was held on the theme "Toward a New Society Brought About by Automated Driving." The panelists were Mr. Eijiro Otsuka of Kanagawa Chuo Kotsu Co., Ltd.; Mr. Shosuke Yamamoto of DeNA Co., Ltd.; Mr. Hiroya Fujimoto of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.; and Mr. Kazuo Hatakeyama of Yamato Transport Co., Ltd.
Afterwards, approximately 150 participants gathered outdoors in the fine weather to view exhibits of Professor Omae's experimental automated driving vehicle and Yamato Transport's "RoboNeko Yamato," an experimental vehicle designed for automated parcel delivery. Other popular attractions included an automated parking experience in Nissan's new Leaf and test rides on DeNA's "Robot Shuttle" automated bus.
