The Keio University SFC "Community-Revitalization Researcher" Information Session (Second Session)

and the Information Session for "SFC Students' Community-Revitalization Fieldwork (during Summer Break)" will be held on Monday, June 19.

[Community-Revitalization Researcher Information Session (Second Session)]

— A program where graduate students engage in the jitsugaku (science) of regional revitalization in collaboration with municipalities nationwide, while receiving remote and in-person advice and support —

The Social Innovator Course (Chairperson: Hiroshi Suzuki) at the Graduate School of Media and Governance, located at Keio University's Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC), promotes projects in collaboration with municipalities across Japan. These projects pursue a synergistic effect between the "practice of regional revitalization" rooted in local communities and "research and development."

As part of this initiative, with the cooperation of local governments, graduate students are appointed as "Community-Revitalization Researchers" to promote practical research in regional revitalization. Through remote and in-person research supervision, learning support, and in-person graduate school projects, we are working to advance the jitsugaku (science) of regional revitalization and foster human resources.

The "Community-Revitalization Researcher" position utilizes systems such as the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' "Community-Revitalization Cooperator" program (e.g., remuneration of 2 million yen/year, activity expenses of 2 million yen/year, for up to 3 years) and municipalities' own unique systems. Graduate students who conduct practical research activities in the field that provide real social impact are appointed through a selection process by the municipalities. This is being promoted in collaboration with multiple municipalities, including Nagashima, Kagoshima Prefecture, which has a cooperative agreement with Keio University SFC.

Once appointed, it is possible to set an arbitrary theme and engage in research practice. However, collaboration with municipalities is also planned on common themes such as "sports-based community development," "regional trading companies," and "enhancing high school appeal." We will be holding the second information session for "Community-Revitalization Researchers" on the date below. We will explain the concept and system of the Community-Revitalization Researcher program, the supervision system at the graduate school, and the common themes and proposing municipalities.

We encourage anyone considering graduate school, current graduate and undergraduate students, local government officials, those interested in the practice of regional revitalization on the ground, and those who wish to conduct research activities at the forefront of local communities to attend.

— Conduct intensive fieldwork during the summer break —

For Keio University SFC students, we provide support for conducting "Community-Revitalization Fieldwork" rooted in local communities in collaboration with municipalities nationwide. Depending on the region, travel subsidies may be available. Additionally, students from the Faculty of Policy Management, the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, and the Graduate School of Media and Governance may register for Field Research 1 & 2 (for undergraduates) or Fieldwork A, B, C, & D (for graduate students) in the fall semester if they follow the procedures, apply in advance during the application period, and are approved. (See: Undergraduates: http://www.gakuji.keio.ac.jp/sfc/pe/fieldwork.html , Graduates: http://www.gakuji.keio.ac.jp/sfc/gsmg/fieldwork_mag.html )

In conjunction with the second information session for "Community-Revitalization Researchers" mentioned above, we will hold an information and consultation session for SFC students considering fieldwork or field research in local communities during the summer break.
