[Reference: Background]

Since the Great East Japan Earthquake, El Sistema Japan has been conducting music education programs in Soma City, Fukushima Prefecture, and Otsuchi Town, Iwate Prefecture, in cooperation with local governments, with the aim of providing psychological care for children. The growth of the children has become a core that connects the community, and the activities have expanded to involve many people . Based on these achievements, in addition to the two regions in Tohoku, the "Project to Nurture Zest for Life through Music" has also been launched in Komagane City, Nagano Prefecture. Through daily music classes, children play music together with their peers, acquiring communication skills and the ability to forge their own paths in life.

Furthermore, through recitals held several times a year, they also bring vitality not only to the children but to the entire community .

The Keio Research Institute at SFC, Keio University (Social Innovation Lab, Tamamura Masatoshi Lab) is developing "social impact assessment methods" in various fields. In fiscal year 2016, it worked tovisualize the power of music, education, and communityandsupport its enhancement. Through the creation of logic models from interviews and quantitative surveys, we are understanding issues such ashow El Sistema Japan contributes to the growth of children and the connections among community members through music, and what challenges exist. This process has alsopromoted dialogue among stakeholdersand made it possible toverify actual outcomes with numerical data.
