HCII2016

In light of the growing importance of deepening mutual understanding between different countries and ethnic groups in today's global society, the paper proposes internet radio as a new medium to help foreign visitors to Japan understand Japanese culture. It received the award in the Cross-cultural Design category, a research area focused on cross-cultural understanding.

ICDS2016

This paper was written prior to the one for HCII2016. In addition to proposing the concept for the aforementioned medium, it also describes in detail the originally developed evaluation method. The award recognized the overall package, including the peer-reviewed paper, the presentation at the international conference, and the Q&A session.

Comment from Ayaka Ito

I am extremely happy to have received the Best Paper Award at both HCII2016 and ICDS2016. I owe this award entirely to Professor Katsuhiko Ogawa, who patiently taught me how to conduct research from scratch when I knew nothing. Also, as my research methods involve fieldwork and interviews, I cannot thank enough the international students and tourists who cooperated with me by participating in my city walks. I have been researching cross-cultural communication since my master's program, and having my area of interest and my interdisciplinary studies at SFC recognized in this way has given me great confidence. I intend to continue my research with sincerity, never forgetting the spirit with which I started.
