April 26, 2016
On the afternoon of Saturday, April 23, Keio Foundation Day, the annual kite-flying event was held at the planned construction site for the Miraisozojuku (Institute for Designing the Future) (WEST Area) on the Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC). The kite that was flown, which is the size of a 4.5-tatami-mat room and was made by student volunteers, had been displayed in Building A for the past year.
It has become an annual spring tradition for students to fly this large kite with the cooperation of the local Endo "Tako-no-kai" (Kite Association). This event is part of the "Policy Management" and "Environment and Information Studies" courses, which are required for first-year students.
This year, the deans of both faculties also participated, and with favorable weather and wind, we were able to witness the magnificent sight of the large kite soaring in the sky.
The large kite, inscribed with the character for "dream" (夢), flew again this year, carrying the hopes of SFC and each individual student. Its image was surely etched deeply in the hearts of the participants. Having fulfilled its role for the year, the large kite is now on display again in the lobby of Building A.
