"Creation of a Fab Earth Society that Links Sensitivity and Digital Fabrication to Expand the Creativity of Habitants" is a research project selected for the Center of Innovation (COI) STREAM Program by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). It is promoted in collaboration with Keio University, Meiji University, Kwansei Gakuin University, Yamagata University, the Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences (IAMAS), the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), and others.
Rather than a passive consumer society that merely accepts mass-produced, standardized products for everyone, we are conducting research with the aim of realizing a "Fab Earth Society." In this society, individuals become "Creative Habitants" who can create things by exercising their own sensibilities and lead fulfilling lives by using them. Furthermore, they deepen solidarity by freely exchanging and sharing knowledge and techniques related to digital fabrication via the internet.
We will be holding the 2nd symposium, which is open to everyone, to serve as both an interim report on our research activities and an opportunity for exchange with key persons from Japan and abroad. Continuing the theme of the invited lecture from the first symposium, "User Innovation: The Future of Manufacturing Starting from Consumers," the overall theme will be "What is the Open Innovation We Need Now?" We will discuss cross-sector initiatives involving citizens, universities, companies, and government in the field of digital fabrication, the installation of 3D printers in various settings, and the expression of individual sensibilities.
For details on the purpose of the event and the scheduled speakers, please refer to the Flyer (PDF).pdf and the website .
Please note that you can also register for the " 2nd International Conference on Digital Fabrication ," which will be held at the same venue from Thursday, March 3 to Friday, March 4. (Participation in the international conference requires a fee, and all lectures will be in English. Participation in the symposium only is free of charge.)
