On January 7, Manami Doi, a third-year student at the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, paid a courtesy call on Fujisawa Mayor Tsuneo Suzuki. She spoke of her enthusiasm for the upcoming Rio de Janeiro Olympics, where she will compete in the Sailing Laser Radial class, and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where the sailing events will be held in Enoshima.
On that day, Ms. Doi was presented with the "Fujisawa City Lifelong Learning Special Contribution Award" by Mayor Suzuki. This award is given to honor individuals or groups who live, study, or work in Fujisawa City and have achieved outstanding results in national-level competitions in fields such as culture, arts, and sports, thereby contributing to the lifelong learning of the city and its citizens. She received a certificate of commendation and a commemorative gift.
Since serving as the venue for yachting (now sailing) events at the 1964 Tokyo Games, Fujisawa City has become one of Japan's leading sailing venues, nurturing the sport and its athletes along with the Shonan culture. To carry this experience and culture into the future, the city is promoting initiatives to unite Fujisawa with the Olympics and Paralympics in preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Games.
Ms. Doi is currently based in Enoshima for her activities in Japan and is training daily for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. For this, her second Olympic appearance, she is reportedly striving to improve both her technical skills and mental fortitude with the goal of winning a medal. We ask for your support!
