As part of the SFC 25th anniversary events, an international symposium was held on October 9 at the North Hall on Mita Campus.
The international symposium, titled "Global Development of Inter-University Educational and Research Collaboration in the Future," featured presentations by President David Lassner of the University of Hawai'i, Professor Hannu Jaakkola of Tampere University of Technology in Finland, Dean Shao Jianguo of the School of Japanese Studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Vice-President Jiro Kokuryo.
President Lassner spoke about the challenges of organizational change in universities and the potential of new technologies for effective student learning. Professor Jaakkola, citing the results of 30 years of research collaboration with overseas universities including Keio University, discussed the necessary steps for fruitful international partnerships. Dean Shao presented on his university's policies for increasing international students and the system for sending students to overseas universities, along with its outcomes. Afterward, Mr. Kokuryo joined the discussion, and a lively debate ensued on further strengthening cooperative relationships and evolving into world-leading universities.
