October 15, 2015
On October 10, the SFC 25th Anniversary Ceremony and events were held in conjunction with the Aki-matsuri Fall Festival.
During the ceremony, a video looked back on SFC's 25-year history. The event also looked ahead to the ongoing Miraisozojuku (Institute for Designing the Future) project, connecting the venue, the θ (Theta) Building: Main Lecture Hall 2, with the EAST Block, the planned construction site for the Miraisozojuku, via a live broadcast.
At the EAST Block, the "SBC (Student Build Campus)" plan, the first phase of the Miraisozojuku (Institute for Designing the Future) project being undertaken as part of the 25th-anniversary celebrations, was introduced to the performance of "Kodomo-daiko" (children's taiko drumming) by the Endo District Taiko Preservation Society.
The Miraisozojuku (Institute for Designing the Future) is a residential education and research facility where all SFC students can live, eat, and learn alongside international students and researchers from around the world. The project is progressing in stages, and in the 2015 academic year, the "SBC (Student Build Campus)" plan is underway with students participating in the design and construction.
After the ceremony, a ridge-pole raising ceremony was held, followed by a grand mochi-maki (rice cake scattering) event at the EAST Block and the θ (Theta) Building: Main Lecture Hall 2.
In the afternoon, attention was also drawn to a health symposium introducing the "Plus 10" exercises developed with Fujisawa City, and a commemorative symposium titled "SFC Entrepreneurs," featuring alumni who embody the entrepreneurial spirit and are active on the front lines. In the arena (gymnasium), children and adults, including people with disabilities, worked up a sweat at the "Regional Sports Grand Exchange."
At the Homecoming Day event, the 7th graduating class of SFC, celebrating 15 years since graduation, held a group workshop with familiar professors, young faculty members, current students, and the general public to discuss Japan and SFC 15 years in the future.
The annual Aki-matsuri Fall Festival featured a variety of projects and food stalls under the theme "A, Kisai" (Ah, a Strange Festival), based on the concepts of SFC's unique, unconventional character and "a miraculous school festival that can only happen at Aki-matsuri." Events by alumni also generated excitement, including a talk show by Sayaka Kobayashi of "Biri Gyaru" (Flying Colors) fame as an event for prospective students, and a live performance by Yoichi Kitayama of The Gospellers.
In the evening, the flickering lights of a candle night and a spectacular fireworks display that lit up the autumn sky for consecutive nights brought the two-day Aki-matsuri Fall Festival to a brilliant close.
