On September 9, a press conference was held at the Fujisawa City General Security Center regarding the opening of Shonan Fujisawa Memorial Hospital. The hospital is scheduled to be built by Kensyukai Medical Corporation on a site adjacent to the Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC).
The press conference began with addresses from Fujisawa Mayor Tsuneo Suzuki, Setsuo Takekawa, Chairman of Kensyukai Medical Corporation (the hospital's founder), and Jiro Kokuryo, Vice-President of Keio University. This was followed by an explanation of the hospital plan and concluded after a lively question-and-answer session.
In October 2014, Kensyukai Medical Corporation, which will operate Shonan Fujisawa Memorial Hospital, and SFC's Faculty of Policy Management, Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care, Graduate School of Media and Governance, and Graduate School of Health Management concluded an "Agreement on Research and Education." The purpose of this agreement is to conduct research, clinical application, and education that will contribute to the creation of a prosperous aging society in the new hospital and the surrounding area.
In the collaborative fields of "health, aging society, and anti-aging research," "building big data for Kampo and integrative East-West medicine," and "health informatics," Kensyukai will be responsible for clinical application, medical service provision, and educational support, while SFC will handle basic and applied research. A space will be prepared within the new hospital in collaboration with Kensyukai to realize the contents of this agreement.
At the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care, located to the north of the new hospital, it is expected that the expertise of both parties will be utilized to enhance educational and research collaboration in nursing, long-term care, and medicine, as well as to improve community medical services such as home-visit nursing.
Shonan Fujisawa Memorial Hospital will be a five-story building with a total floor area of 15,412.6 square meters. It will have 230 beds and various clinical departments, including internal medicine, surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, dermatology, rehabilitation, and radiology. The hospital is scheduled to open around October 2017.
