March 6, 2015

As part of its initiatives for the Program for Promoting the Enhancement of Research Universities, which was adopted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in fiscal year 2013, Keio University has established a research support system that allows researchers who are in the process of childbirth and child-rearing to hire temporary staff for a certain period to continue their research with minimal disruption. At Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) (Faculty of Policy Management, Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care, Graduate School of Media and Governance, and Graduate School of Health Management), we are accepting applications for fiscal year 2015 as outlined below. If you wish to receive support through this program, please review the following guidelines and submit your application.

◆ Eligibility

Full-time researchers (regardless of contract type [fixed-term or tenured] or gender) affiliated with Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) (Faculty of Policy Management, Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care, Graduate School of Media and Governance, and Graduate School of Health Management) who are pregnant at the time of application or are raising a child in the third grade of elementary school or younger. Researchers with laboratories on the Shinanomachi Campus are also eligible.

◆ Support Details

For a certain period when administrative assistance is needed due to time constraints (e.g., picking up children from daycare) or health constraints caused by childbirth and child-rearing, this program subsidizes the personnel costs for temporary staff to perform such duties. The temporary staff may be a member of the general public or a student (in principle, students from the applicant's laboratory are excluded), and their transportation expenses will be provided based on a set of rules. As this program is implemented as part of the Program for Promoting the Enhancement of Research Universities, it cannot be used to support educational duties. Additionally, this support cannot be combined with other direct research expenses. The support is not available during periods of study abroad or special research periods (sabbaticals).

(1) Maximum monthly amount: Approximately 28,000 yen (equivalent to 25 hours at an hourly wage of 1,050 yen [for the general public or graduate students] + transportation expenses).

(2) Support period: From April 1, 2015, to March 31, 2016, at the latest (excluding leave periods for maternity, childcare, etc.).

(3) Application period: From Friday, March 6, 2015, to Monday, March 16, 2015.
