A book produced by Hiroki Fukushima (a 2nd-year student at the Graduate School of Media and Governance), [Nihonshu Ajiwai Jiten] (The Sake Flavor Encyclopedia), has won the Good Design Award 2014 (in the category of research activities and methods).
"Nihonshu Ajiwai Jiten" introduces sake tasting words, expressions for aroma, and mental images, drawing from a wealth of sake brands and examples of expressions.
The Good Design Award is Japan's only comprehensive design evaluation and promotion movement, originating from the Good Design Product Selection System established in 1957. For over 55 years, it has been developed as a movement to improve Japanese industry and lifestyle culture through design, with the total number of awards exceeding 39,000. Today, it is a global design award in which many companies and organizations from both Japan and overseas participate. The "G Mark," the symbol of the Good Design Award, is widely recognized as a symbol of excellent design.
Comment from Hiroki Fukushima
I am very honored that my research on "verbalizing the flavor of sake" has received the Good Design Award.
I am very pleased that this award, being in the "research activities and methods" category, recognizes not only the output of my research but also its process and significance.
I would like to thank the many people both within Keio and outside who have supported this research, and I will devote myself to further research in the future.
