Tomoka Nishiyama, a first-year student at the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, will compete as the challenger in the best-of-five Ricoh Cup Women's Oza Title Match.

Additionally, on September 21, Ms. Nishiyama won two consecutive games in matches held at the Shogi Kaikan, becoming the second woman to be promoted to the rank of 2-dan in the Shoreikai (the Japan Shogi Association's apprentice school).

Her promotion to 2-dan at the age of 19 years and 2 months makes her the youngest to achieve this rank, surpassing the previous record of 21 years and 4 months set by Kana Satomi, holder of two women's titles.

A Comment from Tomoka Nishiyama

"As this is my first time competing, I feel more bewildered than joyful, but I will do my best to perform to my full potential on this major stage."
