Announcing the 1st "Future Policy Contest"

Keio Research Institute at SFC will hold the 1st "Future Policy Contest" at the SFC Open Research Forum 2014 (hereafter "ORF2014"), which will take place in November 2014. This contest is calling for policy proposals to improve society in the 22nd century. We especially welcome proposals based on original, interdisciplinary research.

Undergraduate and graduate students from Keio University, as well as all students enrolled in universities and graduate schools in Japan, are eligible to apply. Please apply in groups of three or more.

Groups that pass the first round of screening will give their final presentations at Nicofarre in Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo! The event will also be streamed on Niconico Douga, allowing you to promote your ideas and research to a wide audience.

The grand prize is 200,000 yen!

The judges will include Heizo Takenaka, Professor at the Faculty of Policy Management, Keio University (former Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, etc.); Yuto Yoshida, Mayor of Yokosuka City; Norihiko Sasaki, Editor-in-Chief of NewsPicks; and Kazuma Ieiri, activist and entrepreneur.

<Application Period>

September 17 (Wed)–October 31 (Fri), 2014 . Must be received by 4:00 p.m.

*Please submit your application well in advance of the deadline.

<Eligibility>

Groups of three or more undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in a university in Japan.

<Awards>

After judging by the panel, the "Excellence Award (200,000 yen)" will be presented to the most outstanding presentation.

<Application Details>

Please send an email to the secretariat at orf-contest [at] sfc.keio.ac.jp with "Future Policy Contest Application" in the subject line, and include the following information in the body of the email:

(1) Presentation Title

(2) Group Name

(3) Number of Group Members

(4) Names and affiliations of all group members

(5) Contact information for the group representative (phone number and email address)

(6) A summary of your presentation materials (within 1,000 characters)

(7) Three keywords that concisely describe your presentation materials (e.g., IT, policy, art)

*For (6), please provide a summary that gives a clear idea of the content of your presentation.

We accept presentation materials in PowerPoint or video format, but please note that we may not be able to support all specifications. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the secretariat at any time.

<Screening Process>

First Round of Screening:

A maximum of five groups will be selected.

All applicant groups will be notified of the results by email by Wednesday, November 5, 2014.

Second Round of Screening and Awards:

This will be held at the SFC Open Research Forum 2014 in Roppongi, Tokyo, in November 2014.

Groups that pass the first round of screening will be asked to come to the second-round venue (Nicofarre, Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo) on Saturday, November 22 (Please note that travel expenses are to be borne by the participants).

A rehearsal is scheduled to take place before Saturday, November 22. Details will be provided when the results of the first round of screening are announced.

On the day of the second round of screening, each group will give a final presentation on their proposal in a presentation format, with a time limit of 7 minutes per group.
