As part of its initiatives for the Program for Promoting the Enhancement of Research Universities, adopted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in fiscal year 2013, Keio University has established a research support system. This system allows researchers who are giving birth or raising children to hire temporary staff for a certain period, enabling them to continue their research with minimal disruption. The Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) (Faculty of Policy Management, Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care, Graduate School of Media and Governance, and Graduate School of Health Management) is now accepting additional applications for fiscal year 2014 according to the guidelines below. Those wishing to apply for support under this program should review the following details and submit an application.

◆ Eligibility

Full-time researchers (including fixed-term and tenured, regardless of gender) affiliated with the Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) (Faculty of Policy Management, Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care, Graduate School of Media and Governance, and Graduate School of Health

Management) who, at the time of application, are pregnant or raising a child in the third grade of elementary school or younger.

(Researchers with laboratories at the Shinanomachi Campus are also eligible.)

◆ Support Details

This program subsidizes the personnel costs for temporary staff for a certain period when administrative assistance is needed due to time constraints (e.g., picking up children from daycare) or health-related constraints

arising from childbirth and child-rearing. Temporary staff can be external individuals or

students (in principle, excluding students from the applicant's laboratory), and their transportation expenses will be paid according to

established rules. Since this program is part of the Program for Promoting the Enhancement of Research Universities, the support

cannot be used for educational duties. It also cannot be combined with other direct research funds.

(1) Maximum monthly amount: Approximately 25,000 JPY (equivalent to 25 hours at 900 JPY/hour [for general public/graduate students] + transportation expenses).

(2) Support period: From October 1, 2014, to March 31, 2015, at the latest (excluding periods of leave for maternity, childcare, etc.).

(3) Application period: September 10 (Wed) to September 22 (Mon), 2014
