2014.02.20
We are pleased to announce that the XD Exhibition 2014 "Ketsuzō: Comparing, Layering, and Connecting Exhibition," a student-led exhibition by laboratories from the X-Design Program at the Keio University Graduate School of Media and Governance, will be held for two days on Saturday, March 1 and Sunday, March 2 at Catalyst BA on the 8th floor of the Futako-Tamagawa Rise Office.
The X-Design Program brings together laboratories from a wide range of fields, including product design, media art, interfaces, digital fabrication, fieldwork, music, and video. Laboratories and students influence and inspire one another, actively engaging in research and creative work that transcends the boundaries of existing disciplines.
XD Exhibition 2014 will feature over 30 works from multiple research groups belonging to the aforementioned program, as well as four talk sessions with distinguished guests active in various fields.
For this year's 6th exhibition, we have chosen the theme of "Ketsuzō" (Image Formation), a technical term from optics.
This word, which means "to form an image through a lens or mirror," has been given a dual meaning.
The first refers to the works themselves as "images" formed by students from diverse backgrounds connecting with various fields.
The second meaning embodies our hope that visitors to the exhibition will form new "images" of their own by experiencing the perspectives and visions presented in each work.
Through the exhibition of works and the talk sessions, we aim to create a space where both exhibitors and visitors can "compare, layer, and connect" various images, from perspectives on everyday objects to visions for the future.

Comment from Associate Professor Yasuaki Kakehi
This event, the XD Exhibition, is planned each year by students from the design-focused laboratories known as X-Design at SFC, and this year's program is once again packed with exhibitions, talk sessions, and workshops. The design researched in X-Design does not fit neatly into any existing category; while some works offer brilliant solutions to problems, many others pose new questions. Moreover, every project emphasizes not just proposing concepts, but sublimating them into tangible outputs through physical objects and systems. I hope you will come and experience the culmination of this year's SFC design, which has been brought to "image formation" by moving back and forth between natural, artificial, and design languages.
