Hanae Shimo, a second-year master's student in the Graduate School of Media and Governance and a member of Professor Masaru Tomita's laboratory, has been selected as one of Japan's student representatives for this year's Stockholm International Youth Science Seminar.

The Stockholm International Youth Science Seminar is a seminar organized by the Swedish Federation of Young Scientists with the cooperation of the Nobel Foundation. Ms. Shimo, along with other young researchers from around the world, will have the opportunity to experience a valuable international exchange, including attending the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony and Banquet, and visiting universities and research institutions near Stockholm.

Each year, two students from Japan are selected by The Japan Prize Foundation. It is a great honor for a student from our university to be chosen for the first time in 25 years (since 1988).

A Comment from Hanae Shimo

I am delighted to have been selected as a student representative from Japan for the Stockholm International Youth Science Seminar, with the support of The Japan Prize Foundation. In Stockholm, I hope to actively interact with Nobel laureates and learn what is necessary to make great discoveries. I also look forward to inspiring and being inspired by the top young scientists of my generation from around the world, and I intend to share my experiences with others after returning to Japan. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone at The Japan Prize Foundation for giving me this opportunity, as well as to Professor Tomita and everyone at SFC who supported my application.
