Since 2010, Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) has presented its "Passive Smoking Prevention Measures at Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC)" and has sought understanding for them on campus. Recently, however, we have increasingly seen egregious situations where these rules are not being followed, such as smoking outside of designated smoking areas, and the disposal of cigarette butts in trash cans in classrooms and hallways or in blackboard chalk trays. We would like to take this opportunity to reiterate the campus's policy on smoking and ask for your cooperation in following the smoking separation rules to help create a pleasant and comfortable campus life for everyone.

◆ Basic Policy

The "Prevention of Passive Smoking" policy at Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) is based on the following four principles, from which a concrete plan has been created. At a campus where underage students are enrolled, it is an important social responsibility of the university to create an environment that prevents passive smoking among minors and does not increase the student smoking rate.

1. The entire campus will be non-smoking (excluding designated smoking areas) to create an environment free from passive smoking. 2. We will prioritize consideration for minors, individuals with illnesses or diseases, and maternal health protection. 3. We will foster an environment where smokers and non-smokers can have mutual understanding and coexist comfortably. 4. We will clearly indicate smoking areas while preserving the landscape. Additionally, the "Kanagawa Prefecture Ordinance on the Prevention of Passive Smoking in Public Facilities," which aims to prevent the health effects of passive smoking in public spaces accessible to an unspecified number of people, has been in effect since April 2010. Under this ordinance, "schools," which are classified as Category 1 facilities, are required to be completely non-smoking indoors.

Smoking Areas

• Based on the premise of a "completely non-smoking campus," all indoor areas, including faculty offices, will also be non-smoking.

• A map showing the location of smoking areas is posted.

• As much as possible, ground-level smoking areas have been eliminated, and smoking areas have been established on terraces and rooftops.

• The terrace and rooftop areas are considered "outdoors" and are not subject to the ordinance's regulations, but signs such as "Smoking Area" and "Let's Prevent Passive Smoking" will be clearly displayed.
