Call for Entries: The 4th Smartphone Future Contest, Hosted by Keio Research Institute at SFC

Keio Research Institute at SFC at Keio University is calling for creations and ideas from children, pupils, and students across Japan that use smartphones to make the future information society brighter, more enjoyable, and kinder.

4th Smartphone Future Contest Overview

Eligibility: Children, pupils, and students (elementary, junior high, and high school students; vocational school students; university and graduate students; etc.)

Submission Categories:

(1) Advanced Works Category: What kind of smartphone applications (software) will be needed in the near future, or in 10 or 20 years? Please create the actual software and submit it along with a summary of the idea. (The software can be in any format that allows its operation to be confirmed on a smartphone, such as a "native app," "web app," "Flash app," or a "flip book" style format that allows for screen transitions. The summary should be one A4 page in any format.)

(2) Future Creation Category: Depict your vision of the future on a poster. Visions that are not feasible with current technology are also welcome. (Selection will be based on the poster alone. The poster should be one A1 page in any format.)

Submission Period: July 1 (Mon) - September 30 (Mon), 2013

How to Apply: Please apply via the Smartphone Future Contest website . Submissions must be original works. However, previously presented works are also acceptable.

About the Smartphone Future Contest Selection Process

In each submission category, one Grand Prize winner and up to one Special Jury Prize winner will be selected and awarded. Applicants will be notified of the first-round screening results by email by November 11 (Mon), 2013. For entries that pass the first-round screening, a second-round screening will be held on November 23 (Sat, holiday) at SFC Open Research Forum 2013 (http://orf.sfc.keio.ac.jp/) at Tokyo Midtown, where the winning entries will be awarded. The creators of the works that pass the first-round screening will be asked to attend the event on November 23 (Sat, holiday).

*Starting this fiscal year, the name of the contest has evolved from the "Keitai (Mobile Phone) Future Contest" to the "Smartphone Future Contest."
