Toshiya Hatsushika, a third-year student in the Faculty of Policy Management, along with Kyuta Sato, a fourth-year student in the Faculty of Law, won the Grand Prize at the Awareness-Raising Video Contest for the Lifting of the Ban on Online Election Campaigning, held by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
A video contest was held to raise public awareness following the lifting of the ban on online election campaigning for the House of Councillors election. Mr. Hatsushika was primarily responsible for planning, such as developing the concept, while Mr. Sato handled filming and CG video creation, leading to their impressive win. The video was praised for its narrative, which depicts young people using the internet to gather election information and, through this, encourages them to confront the future of Japan.
Comment from Toshiya Hatsushika
I believe that the lifting of the ban on online election campaigning will have the greatest impact on the younger generation, including us students at SFC. Even in the recent House of Councillors election, I think there were many opportunities to see information from candidates on platforms like Facebook and Twitter. Furthermore, the very act of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications soliciting videos about online election campaigning is a new initiative. I hope that this award will serve as an opportunity for us, the so-called "net generation" who will shape the future of Japan, to engage with politics more earnestly, even if just a little.
