On Thursday, July 11, the Council for the Implementation of Education Rebuilding visited Keio University's Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC). The Faculty of Policy Management and the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies were pioneers in Japan in introducing AO Admissions (since the entrance examinations for students entering in the 1990 academic year), and while flexibly accommodating spring and fall semester admissions, they conduct a selection process that emphasizes student diversity. The Council has been broadly discussing university entrance examinations, including AO Admissions, and this visit was part of that effort.

The eight members of the Council for the Implementation of Education Rebuilding who participated in the visit were Mr. Moriyuki Kato (former Governor of Ehime Prefecture), Ms. Maki Kawai (Professor at the University of Tokyo and Executive Director at RIKEN), Mr. Kiichi Sasaki (Representative of Seiki Community Group), Mr. Takahiro Suzuki (Trustee and former Principal of Senshu University High School), Ms. Ayako Sono (author), Ms. Miho Takeda (sports and education commentator), Mr. Kazuo Tsukuda (Vice-Chairman of the Council, Senior Corporate Advisor of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.), and Mr. Shuji Yagi (Professor at Takasaki City University of Economics). They were accompanied by 13 other individuals, including the Deputy Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

From Keio University, President Seike gave a greeting via a remote broadcast from the Mita Campus, and Vice-President Haseyama, Dean Kawazoe of the Faculty of Policy Management, Dean Murai of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, and Dean Tokuda of the Graduate School of Media and Governance were in attendance. Additionally, Professor Kunieda of the Faculty of Policy Management and Professor Hagino of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies gave presentations on AO Admissions and the GIGA Program. The visit also included a Q&A session with the council members, a tour of special classrooms and the Media Center, and a discussion between the council members and a total of five Keio students from the Faculty of Policy Management and the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies. The visit was conducted in a friendly atmosphere from beginning to end.

We hope that this visit will be of assistance to the future discussions of the Council for the Implementation of Education Rebuilding.
