Why I Chose SFC and My Journey to University
I've loved computers since I was little, and from my first year of high school, I knew I wanted to go to a university where I could study them in greater depth.
While teaching myself programming, I learned about Professor Murai, known as the "father of the internet." That's how I discovered SFC, and I decided I wanted to apply because it was a place where I could learn about the cutting edge of the internet and computers.
I was also interested in media design, so I mainly applied to universities where I could study information science and media design. Ultimately, I enrolled in the SFC Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, where I could learn about a wide range of subjects, including both media and information technology.
What Are Your Recommended Study Methods?
For mathematics, since I was in a science track in high school, I focused on my high school studies. I practiced by working through problem sets multiple times to memorize the patterns for solving math problems.
For the short essay, I worked on past exam questions on my own and had my high school teachers review them. Having others read what I wrote helped me notice my bad writing habits and learn about clearer ways to express myself. The method of having as many people as possible read my work was great because it allowed me to view my writing objectively.
The Connection Between My High School Studies and My Current Learning at SFC
Although I taught myself programming in high school, I was able to learn it systematically after entering SFC. The fragmented programming knowledge I had acquired proved useful and I am now applying it to my research at SFC.
Also, since I had studied the five main subjects and seven courses in high school and liked all of them to some extent, SFC's curriculum, which allows students to learn a wide range of fields, was a perfect fit for me.
Currently, I am focusing on information science while also studying subjects like economics and law.
A Message for Prospective Students
I enrolled with a vague idea that I wanted to study information technology, but through my studies at SFC, I've come to appreciate the excellent environment that allows me to choose what I want to do from a wide range of academic fields.
Of course, it's great to enter SFC with a specific goal in mind, but it's also very enjoyable to enroll at SFC and discover what you want to do during your time here.
I encourage you to do your best to get into SFC so you can find what you truly want to do from among the many available options!
