Radiative effects of aerosol are considered to contribute to the Arctic warming, in addition to greenhouse gases. We elucidated the distribution and wet deposition process of light absorbing aerosol, especially black carbon (BC), by observations with high accuracies. These are indispensable for the understanding of the effects of aerosols on the climate in the Arctic. And we compared the global model calculations with the aerosol observations. This led to quantitative investigations of the schemes for transport and removal processes of aerosols used in the models. We assessed the climate effects of aerosols on climate in the Arctic by using the validated global models.

In this study, we have conducted continuous in-situ measurements of cloud microphysical parameters and measurements of ice nucleating particle (INP) concentrations in the Arctic region, at Mt. Zeppelin Observatory (473 m asl) in Ny-Alesund, Norway. In studies on mixed-phase clouds, in which water cloud particles and ice particles coexist, we found that the shape of ice particles (crystal habit) has a significant influence on the macroscopic structure and the stability of mixed-phase clouds. Under the typical open water (sea ice), cloud liquid water path varies between 49 (1.1) and 230 (6.7) g m－2, and the ice water path varies between 3 (0.03) and 40 (0.12) g m－2, depending on the ice shape. In INP studies, we found that the melting of snow/ice over the Arctic land area due to the rise in surface temperatures facilitates the emissions of natural aerosols (mineral dust, bioaerosols, etc.), which act as ice crystal nuclei, into the atmosphere and increases the INP number concentrations

令和６年度は、中央アジアのウズベキスタンの首都タシケントに２回渡航し、ウズベキスタン・日本青年技術革新センター（UJICY）に以下の大気観測機材を設置してその運用を開始した。(1) 当研究室で独自開発した定流量多連サンプラー(SilVy-5, Alimov et al. (2021) , Asian J. Atmos. Environ. 15(1), 52-67, 特許7397428)を設置し、全浮遊粒子(TSP)およびPM2.5の2段階の粒径を対象に、PTFE, 石英繊維および当研究室で独自開発した水溶性フィルター（特開2024-174594）を用いて定期的な大気エアロゾル粒子のサンプリングを開始した。 (2) 当研究室で独自開発した小型可搬型サイクロン粒子サンプラー(K-TRiC, Nishita-Hara et al. (2024) Aerosol Sci. Technol. 58(6), 681-693)を設置し、定期的なPM2.5粒子のサンプリングを開始した。 (3) PM2.5計（柴田科学社製 Chicco-iino PS-2および光明理化学工業社製PMT-2500）をそれぞれ5台ずつ現地に輸送し、UJICYをはじめタシケント市内5箇所に設置して各所のPM2.5濃度の連続的な測定を開始した。約2日の試運転期間においてPM2.5濃度は常に数十μg/m3 程度を示し、またK-TRiCにより約20mgのPM2.5粒子を捕集することができたが、これは日本と比較してPM2.5濃度が約10倍の高濃度であったことを示している。 また日本においても、慶應義塾大学矢上キャンパスにおいて同様の大気観測機材を設置し運用を開始した。今後は捕集されたサンプルの化学分析を実施し、合わせて細胞曝露による有害性評価を実施する予定である。

ブラックカーボン（BC）は大きな正の放射強制力を持つ。BC排出量が世界最大である東アジアはBCの発生源として最も重要な地域である。我々は22°Nの台湾から44°Nに位置する北海道までの5つの観測所で長期にわたりBC濃度を高精度で観測してきた。 本研究ではこれまで得たデータを解析し、BCの空間分布と時間変動を明らかにする。また解析されたデータを地球システムモデル(MRI-ESM2)と比較しモデルの精度を評価する。精度評価されたモデルを用いて、アジアにおけるBCの時空間変動の要因を解明する。またBCの放射効果・気候影響とその時間的推移を明らかにする。

実環境大気中の微小粒子状物質の電荷数を推算する測定技術と、ブラックカーボン（BC）粒子の大きさごとの数・質量濃度を測定する装置を組み合わせることで、BC 粒子の帯電状態を高い時間分解能で観測可能な、新たな手法の確立を目指す。さらに、本測定手法を実大気観測に適用することで、実環境大気中のBCの帯電状態の変動要因を明らかにする。本研究の遂行により、数値モデルで表現されるエアロゾルの帯電メカニズムの表現を適切に精緻化することで、生体内に沈着する BC の粒子数の予測精度が一層向上すると期待される。

Black carbon (BC) and iron oxide (FeOx) aerosols deposited on snow lowers its albedo, potentially contributing to warming in the Arctic. Atmospheric distributions of BC and FeOx, which contribute directly and indirectly to radiative forcing, are also greatly influenced by depositions. To quantify these effects, we developed an improved technique for measuring the size distributions of BC and FeOx aerosols in liquid water and made an accurate measurement of the spatial distributions of BC and FeOx in snowpack in Arctic regions. Our measurements revealed that BC mass concentrations in the snowpack were lower by a factor of ~ 13 than previous measurements. The average size distributions of BC in Arctic snowpack shifted to smaller sizes with decreasing BC concentration in snowpack due to an increase in the removal efficiency of larger BC particles during transport from lower latitudes.

ブラックカーボン（以下、BC）粒子は太陽放射の吸収により大気を加熱することで、水循環や極域雪氷面の融解促進に影響を与えるが、その推定の不確実性は依然として大きい。発生したBCは輸送過程でエイジング（ガス成分の凝縮や他のエアロゾルの凝集）を受け、雲・降水過程を経て大気から除去されるが、どの物理量がBCの除去に一番大きな感度を持つかを、これまでの測定手法（フィルター分析・航空機観測）では同定できなかった。そこで本研究では、大気と降水中のBC粒径別数濃度の観測手法を確立し、両者の比で表される湿性除去効率の粒径依存性を観測することで、BCの主な湿性除去メカニズムを解明するとともに、BCの除去に最も重要な物理量を同定する。 まず、降水試料から粒子を大気中に取り出す装置とレーザー誘起白熱法を用いた装置を組み合わせることで、降水中のBC粒径分布の測定手法を確立した。次に、BCの水滴取り込みメカニズムである雲粒化、雨滴衝突、雲粒衝突の粒径別除去割合を推算する鉛直一次元モデルを構築した。これらの測定・解析手法を東京と沖縄の地上観測に適用した。東京では、湿性除去効率に顕著な粒径依存性が見られたが、沖縄ではその粒径依存性が見られなかった。鉛直一次元モデルを用いた解析により、100nm以上のBCは主に雲粒化によって湿性除去を受けることがわかった。BCの被覆が厚くなると、被覆成分や大気中の最大過飽和度の変動によらず高い効率で除去される一方、裸に近いBCは被覆量や被覆成分、最大過飽和度の変動に強く依存し、除去効率が大きく変わることもわかった。さらに、BCの鉛直輸送効率は東京では約6割、沖縄では約2割と推定され、発生源近傍におけるBCの鉛直輸送の重要性を明らかにした。 BC質量濃度の空間分布を気候モデルで正しく推定するためには、特に発生源近傍におけるBCの混合状態や吸湿特性、さらに大気中の最大過飽和度の推定の精度を向上する必要がある。
