We implemented Point-to-Multi-Point (P2MP) path provision supported by GMPLS control on the experimental Ethernet network, assumed by Wide Area Ethernet. In this implementation, GMPLS RSVP-TE is extended for establishing P2MP Label Switched Paths (LSPs), based on the standard of RFC 4875. The signaling scheme to establish P2MP paths is reported together with the experimental results.

We established P2MP (Point-to-MultiPoint) path on a Wide-Area-Ethernet for the next generation network we assumed. With this P2MP path provision, the connection service among multiple point will be achieved. The IETF published the standard for the GMPLS signaling of P2MP path establishment, “RFC4875”, but this standard does not specify the detail of node behavior. We implemented a prototype RSVP-TE based on RFC4875 and achieved P2MP path provision with GMPLS signaling. In this document, the detail of this implementation is reported.

A new optical access network using high-speed PLZT optical switch is presented. The access network, having automatic ranging and slot allocation fuction, can guarantee TCP throughput designing with frame cycle, slot size and guard time.

This paper presents experimental results of GMPLS controlled Next Generation Layer2 (NGL2) networks. By experiment, it is confirmed that NGL2 paths can be established dynamically and correctly by the extended GMPLS for NGL2.

We are proposing a new optical access network architecture using PLZT 10 nsec high-speed optical switches, called Active Optical Network (ActiON). Our architecture can increase four times the number of subscribers as well as double the distance between OLT and ONUs than GE-PON. Moreover, a user can establish secure communication in ActiON. Because ActiON uses not broadcasting system but slot based switching system. ActiON has to overcome a Discovery process issue because an optical switch can not broadcast. In this paper, we propose a new Discovery process technique. Through simulation results and experimental results, we show that our proposed architecture is able to complete Discovery process with accuracy.

As increasing Ethernet service users and enhancing service functions, a next generation wide area layer2 network beyond the state-of-the-art carrier grade Ethernet is expected. This presentation shows GMPLS controlled Next Generation Layer2 (NGL2) network. The presentation also shows the results of the experiment regarding with establishing a path in NGL2 network by RSVP-TE.

This paper proposes a novel traffic engineering method using on-chip diorama network that consists of virtual nodes and virtual links. The diorama network is implemented on reconfigurable processor DAPDNA-2. In these years, traffic engineering has widely researched to guarantee QoS (Quality of Service). The proposal is an experimental solution with the onchip diorama network, where virtual links and virtual nodes are constructed by some PEs (processing elements). We obtain the realistic traffic fluctuation through the behavior of virtual packets exchanged on the on-chip diorama network. In this paper, as first trial to achieve our final goal, we implemented diorama network and confirmed basic path calculation, where both functions are an essential function of our algorithm. The diorama network traffic engineering can realize more sophisticated network design like adaptive traffic balancing or multi-metric design.

As the high-speed network technologies developing, the traffic in the Internet increase rapidly. The network power consumption has come up to 10% of the worldwide energy consumption. In order to reduce this kind of consumption, we propose a novel method, which dynamically modifies the weights of links and makes traffic gather to certain links and then set some links of which the load no traffic Powe-Off. We also did much work in the network simulations, and the result shows that the method has a good effect in reducing the network power consumption.

This paper proposes a fast fault recovery method for the wide area Ethernet. To achieve fast recovery, a pre-established forwarding table is introduced. The pre-established table is looked up when a fault occurs, and frames are forwarded without frame loss. Ethernet lacks of fault recovery features required in Wide Area Network (WAN) since it is originated as Local Area Network (LAN) technology. Protection or restoration is a typical method for fault recovery, but a lot of frame losses are inevitable. Our proposal can decrease frame losses since frames are forwarded without waiting for path switching to be completed to use the pre-preparation table. In addition, the proposed method can be operated with the legacy forwarding method seamlessly. The simulation results show that frame loss decreases to 40 % or less with our proposed method.

This paper proposes a novel network architecture called cloud control plane (Cloud C-plane) to reduce the power consumption of networks. In Cloud C-plane, the forwarding functions and control functions are decoupled, and the control functions are placed in the cloud. In addition, physical network topology is modified to improve the energy efficiency when the load of traffic changes. The routing engine on a dynamically reconfigurable processor (DRP) is a key component of Cloud Cplane. We implement the prototype of the routing engine on an actual DRP, and the experimental results show the execution time of the prototype is 19 times faster in the shortest path calculation.

This paper reports a prototype simple lightning detection system using networked multisite sensors and its experimental results. To achieve a low-cost system compared with the conventional systems, a simple structure based on a general-purpose personal computer is employed in a lightning detector. We experimentally demonstrate the feasibility of observing the lightning pulses by using a prototype system consisting of three lightning detectors deployed at three observation sites. We also discuss issues for improving the performance of the system.

In-band message communication channel and Mac-in-Mac encapsulation technologies are the most important functions for the new generation GMPLS controlled layer2 transport networks. The prototype layer2 transport switch system which supports both functions is successfully demonstrated.

GMPLS controlled multi-domain end-to-end layer-2 path establishment with VLAN tag swapping is demonstrated. Two kinds of signaling mechanisms to realize tag swapping are implemented on prototype layer-2 switch systems and both mechanisms are evaluated.

In recent years, Wide Area Ethernet has become widespread. Wide Area Ethernet is a technique which was expanded from the Ethernet to connect two separated bases using Ethernet. Because Ethernet is a technique for Local Area Networks (LANs), we need a queuing method which controls bandwidth, delay, and delay jitter to use real-time applications in Wide Area Ethernet. The conventional method named Deficit Round Robin (DRR) can control bandwidth and delay. In DRR, a Deficit Counter (DC) is set at each queue to control the frame size which the queue is able to send. However, it is difficult to control the delay jitter which greatly affects strictly real-time applications like haptic technology. Accordingly, we propose a method named Loan-Deficit Round Robin (L-DRR). L-DRR controls bandwidth, delay, and delay jitter using not only DC but also a Loan Counter (LC) to control the maximum delay. Finally, we show how our method affects delay jitter using a computation simulation.

We study a novel optical access network with active optical switches as next generation access network, called Active Optical Network(ActiON). In ActiON, a data is transmitted by fixed-length time, called ”slot”. So, in this paper, we focus on the parameter design of number of slots and transmission cycle considering TCP throughput, and dynamic slot assignment by periodically changing the number of allocation slots.

With the advance of ubiquitous society, it is expected that everything will be connected to the network. Then, a ubiquitous grid networking environment (uGrid) has been proposed. In this environment, everything is defined as service parts and some service parts will be combined to provide new service for users. On the other hand, TV broadcast is one of the typical image distribution system that broadcasts contents to users. Thus, there are limitations by one-way system. In this paper, we propose next generation image distribution system in uGrid as a replacement of TV broadcast. In proposal, service parts are connected by lightpath which set up with GMPLS so that fixed bandwidth can be kept. As an emulation of proposal system, we implement the experimental environment which composed by Layer 2 switch and we demonstrate potential of service parts connection in proposal.

everything has an IP address and connect to the networks. In recent years, based on the above assumptions, a concept of the ubiquitous grid network environment (uGrid) has been generated. In uGrid, we de ne everything all over the world given IP address as a service parts. Users will freely search for service parts that they want to use from all over the world through the networks, and then, they combine each parts so that they can construct a desired distributed system, service, and working environment. So, in this study, we propose the Multi-Service Video Delivery Network for the uGrid service, which is different from the unidirectional video delivery system like a existing TV reception and enable to response to various QoS(Quality of Service) watching demands. Moreover, we attempt to construct a video f ltering transmission system using PLAYSTATION 3(PS3) as a part of the delivery service, in which we consider the needs of the individual privacy protection and the increase of the home-use game consoles or Cell Broadband Engine(Cell) in uGrid. As a result of that, we con rmed that the PS3 functioned as a service parts of the video delivery system in uGrid.

Recently, live migration which is a technology of transferring virtual machines (VMs) is used inside a data center so that data centers can manage server load balancing and energy consumption effectively. It is expected that the live migration technology is extended into Wide Area Network (WAN) between data centers in order to manage VMs more effectively. However, because the IP address of a VM changes after live migration between data centers, the problem that communications between users and VMs disconnect occurs. To solve this problem, we propose two mechanisms: “Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) path switch mechanism using Next Generation Wide Area Layer 2 (NGL2) network” and “Exchanging destination address of VM mechanism”. In this paper, mechanisms of our proposal are explained in detail, and the mechanisms are demonstrated.
