The Mita Public Speaking Event began at Keio University in 1874 (the 7th year of the Meiji era) and held its 700th event in July 2015.
The 711th Mita Public Speaking Event will be held on Tuesday, December 20. Titled "The Culture of Translation in Modern Japan and Fukuzawa Yukichi: Commemorating the 150th Anniversary of 'Gakumon no susume (An Encouragement of Learning)'," the lecture will be given by Alberto Miyanmartin, an associate professor at the Faculty of Economics, Keio University.
